Fossweb: Land Snails.
LAND SNAILSThe land snail is one of natures marvels. But many of its finer attributes go unrecognized because of its reputation as a garden raider. Because it takes a toll on our spinach, cabbage, and lettuce as it goes about its business of survival, we find ourselves in a conflict relationship. In the classroom, however, traditional animosities are put aside in the interest of learning more about the diversity of life.

Eye To Eye With Garden Snails
Eye to Eye with Garden Snails By Kathy Liu This Snail Unit encourages students to explore the external characteristics and behavior of snails. It effectively gets students past the "ugh, slime" reaction to recognizing individual differences in snails and challenges students to learn enough about the snail to be able to predict their behavior under a variety of conditions. Detailed observations are requested as are preparation and testing of hypotheses. This unit works very well with all levels of students and with heterogeneously grouped students.

Snail Vs. Snail
Tahiti "Land snails are having a tough time in Tahiti and the rest of the Society Islands in the South Pacific. Considered prime examples of evolution at work, the 61 unique species of land snails, like many critters native to remote islands, had pathetic protection from predators. They quickly disappeared after a predatory snail was introduced to the islands only six species survive in the wild. ..."
