Comman name the purple varnish clam or the purple mahogany-clam. This is an invasive species in Washington State and British Columbia Canada It was hypothesized to have arrived in ships' ballast water from Asia. It lives in rather clean sand with a lot of freshwater influence (eg. river deltas)
